The Moonlight Greatsword returns in both Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3, and even makes an appearance in Bloodborne as the Holy Moonlight Sword. Most players probably recognize it as the Moonlight Greatsword from the original Dark Souls, but it was also in Demon's Souls (and the PS5 Demon's Souls remake from Bluepoint Games) as the Large Sword of Moonlight.
It first appeared as the Moonlight Sword in King's Field, FromSoftware's very first title back in 1994. For players that don't know, the Moonlight Greatsword, or some version of it, has appeared in almost every single FromSoftware game to date (with the exception of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice). This probable common element between Elden Ring and Armored Core 6 is none other than the Moonlight Greatsword. In fact, many players found themselves completely unaware that the mech combat series was created by the same studio that made Elden Ringand became famous for its iconic Dark Souls series.
The Armored Core franchise has been dormant for a decade now, with the last installment Armored Core 5 releasing way back in 2012. Without a doubt, this game is going to be very different than FromSoftware's latest medieval masterpiece, but it's very likely that the two titles will share at least one iconic feature. While this may have been expected, the reveal of FromSoftware's next game, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, was a bit more of a surprise. This title was an absolute behemoth, bringing the tried and true formula of the Soulsborne games to a never before seen scale and reaching a larger player base than ever before. When FromSoftware accepted the Game of the Year award at TGA 2022 for Elden Ring, it's safe to say that fans weren't entirely surprised.
